At What Age Should My Child see an Orthodontist?

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that children have their first checkup with a specialist at age 7.  Why?  There are many conditions that are far easier to treat if caught at an early age.  For example, a palate expander can correct a crossbite because a youngster’s jaw is still growing.  However, if left untreated it could require surgery.  Below are some examples of common orthodontic problems:
